Description
Cover : Charming scene of two older men raking autumn leaves, one is carefully placing a pretty oak leaf into his wallet for safe-keeping. Signed, but artist’s glyph is truncated by bottom of page, looks like KS in a box. I believe this is Kemp Starrett. See also 9-26-30.
– Full page color ads for Ethyl Gasoline (with excellent art by Stark Davis of a white crane bird against a red sky, Control), and for Lucky Strike cigarettes with woman in pale yellow dress (20,679 physicians say Luckies are less irritating).
– Full page ads for Opening of Hotel Charlotte Harbor, Useppa Inn and Gasparilla Inn in Florida, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (with mother holding six month old child).
– Full page art or cartoon art by Kemp Starrett (Preacher getting the game report in the middle of a wedding, “Notre Dame 12 – Army 0), Don Herold (Say, how do you suppose I putt with you coughing), Paul Carruth (O ye of little faith … table busser), Edwina (Sinbad: the melancholy days are here), Horace Taylor (The village election, from Life November 2, 1905).
– Half page art by Jack Arthur, notable because it is now very politically INcorrect, pertaining to black folks, “’Course I ain’t got no chillun, Mose. Don’t you know I’se a baroness.”
– Some current events include : Governor Roosevelt is preparing to run for re-election, Tammany, Julian Huxley and African wildlife, Monthly death roll in New York for homicides by motor cars is about forty.
– And much, much more.
