Cover : Lady Liberty fighting her way through red tape to get to the war in Europe to help, art by Raymond Moreau Crosby. So very much like the current situation with Ukraine.

– Full page ads for Havoline oil (with art of train yard, keeping fast-moving bodies apart), Weed Tire Chains (really cool art by YOOK … who knows this artist?), Tuxedo tobacco.
– Cute half page art by Arthur T. Merrick of a family standing on ladders to see over the billboards lining the road, “Go prepared if you wish to enjoy American scenery.”
– Also cute, but sobering half page art by C. Barnes, “After the War : Oh Mamma! Can’t we give him some of our dinner?” … puppies eating with their mother while a tattered and wounded dog comes up to the table.
– Full page art or cartoon art by Alexander Popini (Who said U-boats?, Swimming girls scattering from the seaside), Charles Dana Gibson (The spirit of July 14th), Crawford Young (Our society snapshots), Charles Forbell (Universal Peace), Ellison Hoover (Our shirt-sleeve diplomacy, if it were really as bad as it is supposed to be).
– Small photos of French baby 1259 Louis Garel, Baby 1002 Marie Laborde and her brothers, Baby 1286 Andre Roy with mother and sister, Baby 950 Maurice Bader and his mother (Campaign to help the fatherless children of France).
– Two page centerspread art by Angus MacDonall, “Back to the Farm,” Modern man playing golf on the fields where pioneers fought the Indians.
– Some current events include : “It has been possible for some time to get a food bill through Congress provided it had enough prohibition in it,” Very funny long section of the editor’s column pertains to pending prohibition, American troops in considerable number have reached France safely and have been welcomed with enthusiasm, Black Sea fleet.
– “In the airplane,” say Lord Northcliffe, “lies the one great hope of allied victory.”
– And so much more! Life humor magazines are great FUN – get ready to grin, giggle and guffaw!
