Historical Highlights from 1936 :
- Billboard magazine publishes its first music hit parade.
- The Phantom is the first superhero to wear a skin-tight costume and mask in US newspapers.
- Margaret Mitchell’s epic historical romance Gone with the Wind is published.
- The U.S. states of WI, MI and IN all set new state records for high temperature. In northern Michigan, it soars to 113 °F (part of Dust Storm weather patterns).
- In California, the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge opens to traffic.
- The YMCA Youth and Government program is founded in Albany, New York.
- SADLY, this first Life magazine ceases publication with the November 1936 issue.
- Henry Luce purchases the name “LIFE” and starts the classic LIFE magazine with the November 23, 1936 issue.
